Using the app
How does scanning a key work?
Open Scan, fill the on-screen frame with the key on a contrasting surface, and capture. KeySafe records the shape of that key and compares it to keys you have already saved — not to a public catalogue of blanks.
Should I photograph both sides?
Yes, when you can. Capture the face with the cuts, then the reverse if the app asks. More of the silhouette gives a clearer match later, especially on similar keys from the same building.
How should I light and position the key?
Lay it flat, unobstructed, on a plain background. Avoid glare, fingers over the blade, and shooting from a steep angle. A depth-capable phone additionally records shape; any supported camera can still capture.
What if nothing matches, or the wrong key comes up?
Matching is only as good as the records in your library. Confirm the mystery key is one you have already scanned and labelled. Retake both sides in better light, or open the expected key and add a clearer scan. KeySafe will not identify a key it has never seen.
Which devices can scan keys?
Any supported iPhone or Android camera can capture a key. Phones with a depth sensor additionally record the key’s shape, which improves matching. Tablets work; the app stays portrait.
Where do I download KeySafe?
KeySafe Pro is on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android.Download on the App StoreGet it on Google Play
Why does a new scan need the internet?
Your library lives on the phone, but capture and matching run in the cloud so the heavy image work is not done on-device. Browse, search, and edit labels without a connection; scanning and identifying wait until you are online.
Your catalogue
Can I use KeySafe offline?
Yes for the library — browse, search, rename, and manage keys with no signal. Scanning a new key and matching against the collection need a network connection.
How do I organise keys?
Give each key a name you will recognise on site (for example “Flat 4B communal”). Tag with categories such as Home, Work, Vehicle, or your own labels from Profile → Manage Categories. Search looks across names and tags.
Can my team share one catalogue?
Not today. Each sign-in has its own isolated library. There is no property, tenant, or locksmith workflow, and no shared team catalogue. If several people need the same keys, each account must scan them.
Does it tell me what type of blank a key is?
No. It matches against keys you enrolled. It is not a public key-type database and it is not locksmith-grade identification of an unknown blank.
Account and privacy
How is my data protected?
Access requires your account. Optionally lock the app with Face ID or Touch ID on the device. Traffic is encrypted in transit; catalogues are not shared across accounts. These are often keys to other people’s properties — treat the phone accordingly.Read the Privacy Policy
How do I delete my account and data?
In the app: Profile → Account → delete your account. That removes your catalogue and associated data from our systems. You can also email the same request.
Can I change the email on my account?
Not from inside the app. Email us from the address on the account and we will help.
How do subscriptions work?
Plans are managed in the app (Profile → subscription). Free, Plus, and Pro exist in-product. To change or cancel, use the store subscription settings on your phone, or email us with the app version from Profile → About.
